The Irish Grandfather shirt is a traditional long-sleeved buttoned shirt. Made from linen, cotton or flannel, these shirts are still worn throughout Ireland to this very day. They have recently come roaring back as a modern day fashion item, very popular with the “Hipster” fashionistas. The linen version also became very popular with young women as a “boyfriend shirt.”
The linen version is colloquially known as a “Sunday shirt” and are often paired with tweed vests and worn to Mass, Church, Weddings, Funerals, and Christenings.
