Summer is here and as many of you head off to Ireland to take part in The Gathering, we at CelticClothing.com decided to put together a list of the Top 4 Irish Bars in Ireland, so you don’t miss out on anything while you are there! With years of experience in frequenting the finest establishments in Ireland, we feel that this list offers four authentic Irish experiences! We chose one pub from each of the four provinces of Ireland: Leinster, Munster, Connaught, and Ulster.

The Best Irish Bar in Leinster

The Brazen Head, Co. Dublin

Brazen Head Pub Dublin Ireland

This thriving Irish bar is located just off the river Liffey in Dublin, outside the old city walls and near the original bridge ofDublin. This pub is believed to have been a tavern since 1178!

We highly recommend that you stop by and add your name to the legacy of names that have enjoyed a great pint at The Brazen Head: James Joyce, Brendan Behan, Jonathan Swift, Robert Emmet, Wolfe Tone, Daniel O’Connell and Michael Collins.

We decided to give The Brazen Head a CelticClothing.com score of 7/10.

The Best Irish Bar in Munster

The Castle Inn, Cork. The Castle Inn Cork

As you travel down to Michael Collins country, we highly recommend you drop in for a pint in The Castle Inn.  It is like traveling back in time. Men who could have been pulled straight from the set of “The Field” populate the small room, snuff is still for sale and customers are known on a first-name basis.

It’s one of only a handful of places within the city bounds that manage to feel and smell like a true country pub, which is as just about as wholesome and satisfying an experience as it is possible to get in Ireland.

We award The Pavilion a CelticClothing.com score of 7.5/10.

The Best Irish Bar in Connaught

Moran’s Oyster Cottage, Co. GalwayMorans Oyster House Bar, Galway

Now to the West! In Connaught, we are a big fan of Moran’s Oyster Cottage. Lovers of seafood will fall in love with this pub. Moran’s Oyster Cottage is a 250-year-old thatched cottage, oyster shack and bar.

Dating back to the 1800s, the pub has been run by 7 generations of the Moran family. Not only is it Ireland’s oyster capital, (boasting “oyster-shucking” competitions), you’ll also find bartenders who pour a perfect pint. Moran’s Oyster Cottage is located just 12 miles outside of Galway city.

CelticClothing.com loves seafood, Guinness, and cottages so Moran’s gets an 8/10.

The Best Irish Bar in Ulster

Grace Neill’s Bar, Donaghadee, Co. Down Grace-Neills-Bar-Donaghadee

Last, but by no means least is the oldest bar in Ireland! Or at least one of many that claim to be the oldest licensed bars! More importantly, the Guinness Book Of Records supports Grace Neill’s as being the oldest bar in Ireland, dating back to 1611!

As bar, this place is excellent! Grace Neill’s has been the recipient of “Pub Of The Year” award, and “Dining Pub Of The Year” award in the past. Also, the ghost of Grace Neill is said to frequent the bar, but she is said to be friendly!

At such a fine age, we are sure this pub has welcomed countless locals over the years as well as smugglers and pirates, sailors and soldiers. Fishermen, businessmen and more have enjoyed a drink or two in the original snugs at the front bar. To this day these snugs still exist and have seen the likes of writer Daniel Defoe, composer Franz Fritz and even poet John Keats.

We award Grace Neill’s a solid 8.5/10 on the CelticClothing.com Irish Pub barometer.
