The Wild Geese design displays the form of a bird in flight. The piece is dedicated to the Wild Geese who were an army of Irish soldiers, led by the valiant Patrick Sarsfield, that left Ireland under the terms of the Treaty of Limerick in 1691. The term Wild Geese is used in Ireland today to refer to all those Irish soldiers and is also used when referring to the Irish immigrants who are now scattered around the globe.
